Seasoned cricketer Rahmat Shah has been named as the new Test and ODI captain for Afghanistan, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz appointed as his vice-captain in both formats, announced the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
Rahmat Shah, aged 33, takes over from Hashmatullah Shahidi, who led the team in 55 ODIs, winning 27 matches, before stepping down. Shahidi’s successful tenure included a notable sixth-place finish at the 2023 World Cup and a maiden series victory over South Africa.
The new leadership duo of Rahmat Shah and Rahmanullah Gurbaz will assume their roles during Afghanistan’s upcoming tour of Ireland in August, which includes a five-match ODI series. The ACB expressed confidence in Rahmat Shah’s experience and leadership, aiming for further success under his guidance.
