Afghanistan’s coach, Jonathan Trott, concluded his time with the team after their final group match at the 2026 T20 World Cup. Trott, who took over in 2022, played a significant role in the team’s growth and international competitiveness during his tenure. Despite the team’s exit from the tournament, Trott expressed gratitude for the progress made.

Under Trott’s guidance, Afghanistan achieved milestones in cricket, including a historic semifinal finish at the 2024 T20 World Cup and victories over top-ranked teams. Reflecting on his coaching experience, Trott highlighted memorable moments and the development of the team both on and off the field. He emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and praised the players for their dedication.

Trott, initially stepping in as coach by chance after Graham Thorpe’s withdrawal, acknowledged the unexpected turn in his career. He credited Thorpe for his coaching development and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. Trott’s coaching philosophy focused on enhancing Afghanistan’s pace bowling resources to complement their spinners, aiming for a well-rounded team for future competitions.

Looking ahead, Trott expressed a desire to take a break before considering his next coaching venture. He shared his pride in coaching Afghanistan and expressed a hope to continue coaching a team close to his heart in the future. Trott concluded by reflecting on the ups and downs of his coaching tenure, cherishing the memories created with the team.
