Afghanistan’s captain Rashid Khan achieved a milestone by becoming the first player to claim 700 wickets in T20 cricket. This landmark was reached during Afghanistan’s Men’s T20 World Cup Group D match against the United Arab Emirates in New Delhi. Rashid secured his 700th wicket by dismissing Muhammad Arfan in the 16th over of the UAE innings with a hit-wicket dismissal.
The leg-spinner, Rashid Khan, displayed a modest celebration as Afghanistan aimed to secure victory over the UAE to keep their chances alive for entering the Super Eights. Prior to this match, Rashid had taken his 698th and 699th wickets against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the game in New Delhi, Rashid bowled 3.2 overs without success before finally achieving the milestone.
Rashid Khan’s 700 wickets in T20 cricket place him at the top of the list of wicket-takers in this format. Retired West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo follows in second place with 631 wickets, while off-spinner Sunil Narine ranks third with 613 wickets. Rashid also holds the record for the most wickets in T20Is with 191 scalps for Afghanistan, leading ahead of New Zealand’s Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi.
In a recent statement, Rashid expressed his dedication to the game, emphasizing that he aims to give his best for the national team, especially during World Cup matches. He highlighted the importance of contributing to the team’s success by taking wickets when needed.
