Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has announced that 1,032 organs and tissues have been donated through its organ donation program in the last six years. This hospital is known for its significant role in cadaveric organ donation in India. Recently, a 29-year-old man named Dharmendra Darbar, who was declared brain dead after a road accident, donated one liver and two kidneys, benefiting three critically ill patients.

Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi stated that the institution has seen 240 organ donors contributing a total of 794 organs in the past six years. Additionally, there have been 194 eye donations and 44 skin donations, making it a total of 238 tissues. The hospital has received donations including 443 kidneys, 214 livers, 76 hearts, 34 lungs, 19 pancreases, 6 hands, and 2 small intestines, enabling life-saving transplants for patients with organ failure.

The organ donation program at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has facilitated transplants for patients in need across various organ failure categories and has been instrumental in raising awareness about cadaveric donation. In a separate update, the state government has raised the monthly stipend for interns at Siddhpur Dental College and Hospital from Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,160. State Health Minister Praful Pansheriya highlighted that this increase acknowledges the hard work of young doctors during their internship, aiming to support interns engaged in clinical duties and patient care during their training.
