The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee has given the green light to development projects totaling Rs 2,500 crore in the city. This includes a significant Rs 240 crore initiative to revamp the Subhash Bridge, which had been shut down due to structural issues last year. Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani revealed that the approved decisions encompass various infrastructure works like roads, drainage, and water supply across different city wards.

Projects valued at around Rs 600 crore are earmarked for road enhancements, with a notable approval for a distinctive road connecting Naroda to Narol. Dani emphasized that these infrastructure endeavors aim to bolster the city’s long-term progress. He highlighted the rapid pace of Ahmedabad’s development on a global scale, especially in preparation for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The committee also sanctioned around Rs 250 crore for enhancing buildings associated with Gujarat University, L.D. College of Engineering, heritage sites, and temples.

Moreover, plans include the establishment of a new public garden in the western outskirts of the city, named the Lotus Garden. This garden, inspired by Kankaria and Vastrapur Lake, will feature replicas of flowers from every Indian state to enhance people’s well-being. The committee further greenlit an upgrade to the civic body’s complaint management system, introducing artificial intelligence to the existing CCRS App for complaint registration.

Additionally, the committee approved the development of 25 new junctions in Ahmedabad, expanding on the earlier approval for 100 junctions. The comprehensive Rs 2,500-crore package covers various works such as halls, urban health centers, bridges, and footpaths across different wards. South-West Zone Deputy Municipal Commissioner Mirant Parikh detailed the technical aspects of the Subhash Bridge renovation project, emphasizing its critical role as a major traffic conduit in the city.

Parikh explained that the renovation involves replacing the bridge’s superstructure and reinforcing its overall structure. The project will unfold in two phases, with the first phase focusing on renovating the existing structure over nine months. Subsequently, two new bridges with two lanes each will be constructed alongside the current structure, featuring modern amenities like crash barriers, footpaths, and architectural lighting. The entire project, including the additional bridge works, is estimated to span around 24 months for completion.
