The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sanctioned a revised budget of Rs 18,518 crore for the financial year 2026-27, marking a Rs 1,500 crore increase from the initial estimate. This decision, presented by the Standing Committee chairman Devang Dani, received approval from the civic body, concluding the budgetary process smoothly after the cancellation of a proposed slaughterhouse project in the Gyaspur area.

Civic officials mentioned that the revised budget reflects public input, focusing on essential civic services, infrastructure development, sustainability, urban mobility, heritage preservation, and citizen-centric governance. A significant portion of the budget, amounting to Rs 11,082.85 crore, has been designated for development projects across the city.

Mayor Pratibha Jain emphasized that this is the largest budget ever approved by the corporation, tailored to meet the needs of the residents. The budget prioritizes people’s requirements and aims to surpass previous development milestones while preparing for upcoming global events. Traffic management improvements, including a restricted-height underpass, a flyover, and additional underpasses at key locations, feature prominently in the revised budget.

In the health sector, Rs 50 crore has been allocated for establishing a Medical Institute and Super-Speciality Hospital in the Nikol ward. Additionally, provisions amounting to Rs 115 crore have been set aside to address monsoon-related flooding issues by rehabilitating the city’s stormwater and drainage network. The budget also includes tax relief measures, such as increased rebates for advance property taxpayers and online property taxpayers.

Various environmental and recreational initiatives are outlined in the budget, including the development of themed gardens, yoga centers, women’s gyms, and a dog shelter within municipal limits. Furthermore, plans are in place to enhance road infrastructure through public-private partnerships and provide slight increases in special discretionary allocations for AMC committee chairpersons and deputy chairpersons.
