The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) conducted a citywide drive against illegal encroachments and traffic obstructions, collecting approximately Rs 8.39 lakh in penalties. The campaign aimed to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance movement on public roads in Ahmedabad. During the week-long operation, authorities removed numerous illegal structures, roadside stalls, advertisement boards, and parked vehicles from various locations across the city.
The Estate Department of the AMC reported that penalties totaling Rs 8,39,900 were imposed during the drive. Additionally, 685 handcarts and roadside stalls were removed from public roads, along with 253 illegal sheds and 915 unauthorized tarpaulin structures. The enforcement action also targeted 1,974 advertisement boards and around 4,885 miscellaneous items occupying public spaces, all of which were seized.
In further efforts to address the issue, the AMC took action against vehicles parked illegally on roads and highways. Throughout the week, 1,133 vehicles were wheel-locked, fines were issued to 1,145 vehicle owners, and 10 vehicles were towed away. Encroachment removal drives were carried out in various zones of the city, including the western, North West, South West, East, Central, North, and South Zones. The Estate Department emphasized the importance of compliance with encroachment regulations and announced continued strict enforcement in the upcoming weeks.
