With the monsoon season approaching, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has completed extensive pre-monsoon preparations for road repair and maintenance in the city. This includes stocking construction material, readying machinery, and activating its fully automated hotmix plant to swiftly address potholes and road damage during heavy rainfall.
For the upcoming monsoon season, the AMC plans to supply around 42,000 metric tonnes of hotmix material. Tenders have been approved in all zones for patchwork using infrared and jet patcher technologies to ensure quick repairs in adverse weather conditions. Last monsoon, a total of 44,333.71 metric tonnes of hotmix material were used for road maintenance across Ahmedabad.
In the previous monsoon season, the North Zone used the highest amount of hotmix material at 9,831.28 metric tonnes, followed by the West Zone, South Zone, and North West Zone. The East Zone utilized 4,041.43 metric tonnes, while the South West Zone and Central Zone used 3,671.69 and 534.30 metric tonnes, respectively. Additionally, 151.08 metric tonnes were used for bridge-related projects.
To ensure prompt road repairs during rainy conditions, the AMC has arranged sufficient stock of hotmix material in every zone and kept machinery ready. Teams and equipment have been deployed across zones to address potholes and road damage caused by heavy rain.
The AMC’s hotmix plant has a production capacity of 180 tonnes per hour, with the bitumen tank capable of storing up to 100 metric tonnes. To maintain operations during the monsoon, the AMC has stocked aggregates and bitumen in adequate quantities.
