The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) intends to erect a significant statue of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at the Sabarmati Riverfront to honor his birth anniversary and recognize his nation-building contributions. The proposal emerged during a Standing Committee meeting where various civic matters were deliberated.
On 6th July, which marks Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s birth anniversary, the corporation aims to unveil a prominent statue at the Sabarmati Riverfront. The Standing Committee Chairman, Kamlesh Patel, mentioned that necessary directives have been given to the Municipal Commissioner for further actions.
In addition to this initiative, the committee addressed concerns regarding unauthorized occupation in EWS quarters in the Asarwa area. A member highlighted issues related to illegal occupancy in 17 houses at Jupiter Mill EWS quarters. The Deputy Commissioner confirmed the seizure of encroachers’ belongings and instructed the initiation of legal proceedings.
Regarding civic property management, the committee discussed the potential permanent sale of a multi-level parking facility on Sindhu Bhavan Road. The Chairman emphasized the need for clarity on various aspects, such as the utilization of Floor Space Index (FSI) and the future use of specific floors in case of redevelopment.
The city’s pest control operations were also reviewed during the meeting. A budget of Rs 10.94 crore was approved for the 2025-26 fiscal year, with a portion already utilized due to the increased number of households in Ahmedabad. The manpower has been augmented to accommodate the rise in households.
Updates were provided on the reconstruction of Subhash Bridge, with demolition work underway for about a month. Experts recommended full replacement of the bridge piers for long-term safety and durability, considering modern engineering standards. The new design aims for a 100-year service life and improved traffic flow.
