The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)-run schools will offer structured international-level music education to Class 5 students following an MoU with Yamaha Music India Private Limited. This move aims to integrate co-curricular learning into the city’s public education system, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Under the agreement facilitated by Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, the initiative will kick off as a two-year pilot project starting from the academic years 2026-27 to 2027-28. A total of 1,692 Class 5 students across 24 municipal schools will benefit from this structured music training program.

As part of the pilot project, 48 teachers from these schools will undergo specialized training in July this year by experts from Yamaha Music India Private Limited. Subsequently, each of the 1,692 participating students will receive a recorder instrument and music books free of charge before the classroom-level implementation begins.

To support practical learning sessions, each of the 24 schools involved in the initiative will be equipped with a keyboard. A dedicated music period will also be incorporated into the weekly timetable of selected schools to ensure consistent training and skill development for the students.

Officials emphasize that the program is designed to offer students a systematic exposure to music education, potentially opening doors to future career opportunities in the field based on their interests and abilities. The success of the pilot phase will determine the potential expansion of the program to other municipal schools in the future.

The memorandum signing ceremony witnessed the presence of senior representatives from Yamaha Music India Private Limited, including Managing Director Kennei Sakai and other key officials. From the municipal school board, Chairman Dr. Sujay Mehta, Vice Chairman Vipul Sevak, and Administrator Dr. L.D. Desai were also in attendance.

Yamaha Music India Managing Director Sakai commended Gujarat’s efforts to enhance foundational education and promote skill development, acknowledging the municipal school board’s commitment to students’ holistic development. This initiative is poised to introduce structured music education into Ahmedabad’s municipal school system alongside academic learning, aligning with the broader goal of expanding skill-based and experiential education as per NEP-2020.
