The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is actively addressing dangerous and dilapidated buildings in the city before the annual Rath Yatra. Special inspections have been conducted across various property types to ensure monsoon preparedness and public safety. Owners and occupants of structures in poor condition have been instructed to promptly address safety concerns and prevent any potential accidents.
In the Central Zone, 274 risky buildings have been identified this year alone. Notices have been issued under Section 264 of the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations (GPMC) Act, mandating the removal of hazardous sections and necessary repairs. The Khadia ward, a significant area for the Rath Yatra procession, has also received notices regarding dangerous buildings.
The AMC has served notices to a total of 1,525 properties under the GPMC Act, with 274 new buildings added to the list this year. Property owners have been urged to expedite repairs and eliminate unsafe portions of their buildings. Citizens have been advised against entering or residing in these risky structures and to steer clear of using them for any purpose.
Residents residing near these hazardous buildings have been cautioned to stay vigilant and take precautions for their safety, especially with the monsoon approaching and the Rath Yatra festivities on the horizon.
