The Ahmedabad City Police conducted a 24-hour special operation in Zone 7, leading to the arrest of 190 individuals, including two long-wanted suspects. This operation, named ‘Operation Clean Sweep 2.0’, was executed across eight police stations under Zone 7. A total of 341 officers and personnel participated in this initiative, targeting various categories of offenders.
Among those arrested were absconding accused, offenders with Non-Bailable Warrants, externed offenders, jail absconders, prohibition violators, and drunk drivers. Special teams were deployed to track suspects believed to have fled Ahmedabad, utilizing human Intelligence and technical surveillance. The arrests included individuals wanted for several years in diverse criminal cases.
Police efforts led to the apprehension of individuals evading arrest for extended periods, including a man wanted since 2005 in a counterfeit currency case who had been on the run for 21 years. Another suspect, wanted for a 2006 theft case, was captured after 20 years of eluding authorities and was traced to Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, arrests were made in cases involving offenses like cheating, house-breaking, and crimes against women.
The operation involved meticulous planning, including the identification of absconding suspects and offenders from the past five years. Raids were conducted based on intelligence inputs, with a focus on suspects involved in ongoing investigations and wanted by the courts. Police also cracked down on individuals violating legal orders and intensified efforts to locate suspects outside Ahmedabad.
DCP Shivam Verma highlighted the operation’s significance, emphasizing the police’s vigilance ahead of the Rath Yatra. He mentioned that similar operations against criminals and anti-social elements would persist to ensure public order and safety during major events.
