The Ahmedabad Police apprehended eight individuals and recovered property worth Rs 1.72 crore related to a case involving the alleged diversion and theft of a gold jewelry consignment valued at Rs 2.58 crore. The incident occurred during the transportation of the consignment from Ahmedabad to Bengaluru via air cargo. A complaint lodged by Balvirsinh Rathod of Sequel Logistic Company led to the registration of the case at Airport Police Station Part-A under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The complaint pertained to seven parcels of gold ornaments received from a jeweler, destined for delivery to a company in Bengaluru. One of the parcels, weighing about 13 kg and containing gold ornaments valued at Rs 2,58,10,764, went missing after being handed over at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport Cargo Terminal in Ahmedabad. This discrepancy raised suspicions of criminal breach of trust, prompting the initiation of an investigation.
The police, under senior officers’ supervision, conducted a thorough investigation utilizing CCTV footage analysis, technical resources, and human intelligence inputs to track down the culprits. The probe revealed the involvement of airline personnel, handlers, and external collaborators in the conspiracy. Roshankumar Patel, Zaid Hasan Ansari, and Jayesh Parmar were identified as key figures in orchestrating the operation, with Parmar currently evading authorities.
