Ahmedabad is set to boost its public transport network through a new mobility partnership. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed to connect taxi services with the city’s Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform. The agreement was formalized at the Mahatma Gandhi Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar in the presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
The pact, inked between the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited’s ‘Bharat Taxi,’ aims to enhance first and last-mile connectivity for public transport users. Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited, which has been managing public transport services in the city for 16 years under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s supervision, currently operates a fleet of 200 on-road electric, air-conditioned buses and 150 CNG buses as part of its green mobility initiative to offer low-emission, affordable transport choices.
As per the memorandum, Bharat Taxi will integrate its services with the AMC’s MaaS platform, enabling access to AMTS, BRTS, and upcoming transport services through a unified digital system. This integration seeks to support on-demand taxi services in conjunction with existing public transport alternatives, aiming to reduce dependence on private vehicles and enhance multimodal connectivity.
The initiative is designed to promote sustainable urban mobility, digital governance, and citizen-centric service delivery through coordinated transport systems. Officials anticipate that the partnership will diversify mobility options for citizens by consolidating multiple transport services on a unified platform, with the goal of enhancing accessibility and operational efficiency within Ahmedabad’s public transport ecosystem. The launch event also saw the signing of memorandums of understanding with various organizations to strengthen the platform’s integration with transport infrastructure and public services across the state.
