Ahmedabad is set to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers – Window 3 at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura from July 2 to 5. The Indian men’s basketball team will compete against Qatar and Lebanon in crucial qualification matches during this event.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi highlighted Ahmedabad’s increasing role as an international sports venue. Following the successful hosting of the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Cup, the city is now gearing up for another major international competition in basketball.
India’s participation in the basketball qualifiers is part of its journey towards the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027. The national team, led by head coach Scott Fleming, is focusing on developing young talent and gaining valuable international exposure to enhance its performance.
With India ranked 76th globally and 14th in Asia according to FIBA rankings, the team aims to leverage home advantage in Ahmedabad to elevate its game against tough opponents. Players like Kanwar Sandhu, Pranav Prince, Princepal Singh, and Harsh Dagar are expected to play key roles in India’s quest for basketball excellence.
