Ahmedabad’s civic authorities successfully completed the controlled demolition of three spans of the old Subhash Bridge over the Sabarmati River. The spans were carefully dismantled and lowered without any incidents, ensuring the safety of workers and the surrounding area. The operation was conducted under the supervision of structural experts and in compliance with safety standards.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation confirmed the safe completion of the demolition, emphasizing that no injuries or damage occurred during the process. The remaining demolition of the old bridge will proceed in phases while maintaining strict safety measures. Debris removal has already commenced as part of the ongoing reconstruction efforts.
The decision to demolish the bridge followed detailed structural assessments by experts from IIT Roorkee and Gandhinagar, along with bridge engineer Mahesh Tandon. The expert panel unanimously recommended the complete removal of the aging bridge for a safer and more durable long-term solution. The Subhash Bridge, built in 1973, was closed last year due to structural issues and is now being replaced with a new structure.
