AIADMK’s Edappadi K. Palaniswami extended congratulations to all successful candidates and parties in the recent Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election. Amidst uncertainty surrounding the formation of the next government in the state, Palaniswami wished luck to the party that would eventually take charge. The election, held in a single phase on April 23 for all 234 Assembly constituencies, saw a competitive contest involving various political alliances.
Intense political activities and negotiations are ongoing following the split mandate in the Assembly polls. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the largest party with 108 seats and is working towards securing the necessary support to establish the government. While Congress and Left parties have already pledged their support to TVK, the party is awaiting a formal decision from Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), which could be crucial in determining the government formation.
VCK’s president Thol Thirumavalavan is expected to make an official statement regarding support to TVK, a move that could significantly impact the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly. Additionally, a new controversy arose when AMMK’s T.T.V. Dhinakaran alleged the submission of a fake support letter in favor of TVK, raising concerns of “horse-trading” and forged documents that might delay the government formation process.
Speculations suggest that Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar might scrutinize the allegations and direct supporting MLAs to verify their support letters in person, potentially prolonging the decision-making process. As negotiations persist and tensions rise, Tamil Nadu awaits the resolution of the political deadlock to determine its next governing body.
