AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is set to travel to New Delhi on Thursday for crucial discussions with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding seat-sharing ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Palaniswami will engage in high-level talks with senior BJP officials, including a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to negotiate constituency allocations between the two parties.
The visit is seen as a pivotal step in finalizing the alliance framework as political activities intensify across Tamil Nadu following the announcement of the poll schedule. While the ruling DMK has made progress in seat-sharing with key allies like the Congress and the CPI, the AIADMK-BJP alliance is yet to officially disclose its seat-sharing arrangement, making Palaniswami’s visit significant.
Union Minister and BJP’s Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal is also expected to visit Chennai soon to address remaining differences and strategize campaign coordination. The outcome of Palaniswami’s discussions in Delhi is anticipated to have a significant impact on the electoral prospects of the AIADMK-BJP alliance, with both parties aiming to swiftly conclude talks amid mounting campaign pressures.
The AIADMK-BJP alliance’s final structure for the upcoming Assembly elections is expected to be determined based on the outcomes of the ongoing discussions in the national capital.
