AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, known as EPS, made a sudden trip to New Delhi, sparking political rumors during ongoing seat-sharing talks with the BJP for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Departing Chennai in the afternoon, EPS is set to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior BJP leaders later in the day.
The visit comes after Amit Shah’s recent visit to Tamil Nadu, where he did not meet EPS, causing unease within BJP ranks. While AIADMK leaders met Shah, the absence of EPS reportedly stalled crucial alliance discussions, especially on seat allocation. Sources suggest that this led to unresolved issues and dissatisfaction at the central level, prompting the urgent Delhi visit.
Accompanied by senior AIADMK leaders K.P. Munusamy and C. Shivashankaram, EPS’s trip is seen as significant. Despite claims that the visit was independently planned, there are contrasting narratives within AIADMK circles. Some sources state that EPS aims to address alleged corruption by the ruling DMK government, presenting a dossier to Amit Shah for central intervention. The visit’s outcome is closely monitored for signals on the AIADMK–BJP alliance’s future in Tamil Nadu.
