The AIFF refuted media reports claiming Mohun Bagan SG players were released for the Unity Cup. AIFF Deputy Secretary General M Satyanarayan clarified that no such letter was received, with AIFF sending letters to all clubs regarding India’s Unity Cup participation.

Satyanarayan highlighted AIFF’s significant spending on players’ medical treatment and rehab, emphasizing the welfare of national team players. Despite cooperation in the biometric VISA process, Mohun Bagan SG players faced last-minute changes.

The club’s lack of response to event details and emails was noted by AIFF, leading to confusion over player releases. While seven players were called up, only six joined the Bengaluru camp due to club instructions.

AIFF expressed disappointment over the situation, understanding club pressures but stressing the importance of timely communication. The impact on players and potential replacements was acknowledged, with a call for better coordination in such instances to avoid missed opportunities.
