The All-India Football Federation (AIFF) declined Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s plea to remove the stadium ban imposed on them for spectator misconduct during a match with Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26. The ban resulted from repeated instances of pyrotechnics by home fans during the game at Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata.
Mohun Bagan faced the stricter penalty due to a previous offense by their fans during a match against Bengaluru FC in April 2025. Despite Mohun Bagan’s request to lift the ban, the AIFF rejected it, citing the need for adherence to proper channels and procedures outlined in the AIFF Disciplinary Code, 2024.
According to the AIFF Deputy Secretary General, Mr. M. Satyanarayan, while fans are valued stakeholders, ensuring the safety of everyone in the stadium remains a top priority. The AIFF highlighted the provision for appealing decisions under Article 117 of the AIFF Disciplinary Code, 2024, emphasizing the importance of following the Code’s procedural rules for any appeals.
The AIFF justified its decision by recounting the background of the incident and the rationale behind penalizing Mohun Bagan Super Giant for spectator misconduct. Despite a previously suspended sentence, Mohun Bagan faced another complaint of fan misconduct during a recent match, leading to the imposition of a full stadium closure for their upcoming home game against Odisha FC on March 6, 2026.
