The All India Football Federation’s Technical Committee has suggested appointing an Indian coach to lead the senior women’s national team, replacing Amelia Valverde. Additionally, the committee proposed Renjith TA as the assistant coach for the senior men’s Indian football team. The recommendations were made during an online meeting discussing the future of both national teams.
Chaired by IM Vijayan, the committee, which included members like Harjinder Singh and Climax Lawrence, emphasized the need to consider Indian coaches for the women’s team’s head coach position. The committee expressed gratitude to Valverde for her leadership during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and wished her success in future endeavors.
With upcoming matches for the women’s team in the April FIFA International Window and the SAFF Women’s Championship in June, the Technical Committee viewed this as an opportune time for an Indian coach to step in. The AIFF is expected to make a final decision on this matter soon. Moreover, the committee recommended Renjith TA as the assistant coach for the senior men’s Indian football team, following Mahesh Gawali’s appointment as head coach of the India U20 national team.
Furthermore, the committee proposed forming a study group comprising a Technical Committee member, an AIFF coach instructor, and a scout to evaluate the performance of the India U23 men’s national team at the U23 Tri-Nation in Arunachal Pradesh. This group will assess player performances, identify potential candidates for the senior level, and pinpoint areas for team improvement.
