Following an engine shutdown on an Air India flight from Delhi to Mumbai, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced an investigation. The Mumbai-bound Air India B777-300ER aircraft had to return to Delhi shortly after take-off due to a technical problem, landing safely. The crew noticed low engine oil pressure on the right-hand engine during flap retraction, leading to the shutdown of the No. 2 engine as a safety measure. The DGCA mentioned that inspection and rectification procedures are underway and that the incident will be investigated by the Airline’s Permanent Investigation Board under DGCA supervision. Air India is providing immediate assistance to affected passengers and making alternative arrangements for their travel. In preparation for the fog season, Air India has implemented measures like CAT III B crew rostering, deployment of CAT III B-certified aircraft, and tech-enabled passenger assistance to minimize disruptions. The airline has also introduced the ‘Fog Care’ initiative to assist passengers in case of delays or schedule changes due to fog-related issues. The DGCA has set December 10, 2025, to February 10, 2026, as the official fog window for the season.
