The Sub-Committee on Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) under the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas has lifted all Stage-I actions in the National Capital Region (NCR) following a significant enhancement in Delhi’s air quality. Delhi’s daily average air quality index (AQI) has seen an improvement from 207 to 123, with forecasts suggesting that the AQI will remain in the ‘Moderate’ category in the upcoming days. The decision to revoke Stage-I actions was made after a review of the air quality parameters and meteorological forecasts.
The Sub-Committee had initially implemented Stage-I of GRAP when Delhi’s AQI started to rise, but the recent improvement led to the revocation of these measures. The current AQI in Delhi stands at 123, attributed to favorable weather conditions like strong winds and light rain. The forecast indicates a continued ‘Moderate’ AQI in the coming days, prompting the unanimous decision to remove Stage-I actions across the NCR immediately.
To maintain the improved air quality levels and prevent deterioration, all concerned state agencies and the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi have been urged to strictly adhere to environmental directives and guidelines. These measures are crucial to sustain the current air quality status and prevent it from deteriorating to ‘Poor’ levels. The Sub-Committee will continue to monitor the air quality situation closely and make further decisions based on ongoing assessments and forecasts.
