All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Badruddin Ajmal criticized the Congress, likening it to the Muslim League and accusing it of failing as an effective Opposition in Assam. Ajmal, after winning from the Binakandi Assembly constituency, stated that the Congress had neglected minority communities, indirectly benefiting the BJP.
Ajmal emphasized that the AIUDF would now step up to challenge the BJP-led government within the Assam Assembly. Despite securing only a few seats, AIUDF legislators pledged to address issues concerning minorities, eviction drives, detention centers, and the D-voter system.
The AIUDF leader expressed disappointment in the Congress for not strongly opposing the Assam government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on matters affecting Muslims in the state. He criticized the Congress for failing to take a firm stand on issues concerning minority voters and accused the party of not fulfilling its role as the main Opposition force.
Ajmal also accused senior Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi, of inadequately countering the BJP politically. He alleged that during the election campaign, both the Congress and the BJP collaborated to weaken the AIUDF.
Addressing internal party issues, Ajmal dismissed rumors of leaders leaving the AIUDF, clarifying that those who departed were expelled due to organizational disagreements and disciplinary reasons.
