Akal Takht Jathedar Kuldip Singh Gargaj has called Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan for an explanation on January 15. The summons relate to Maan’s remarks against Sikh institutions, which are said to have offended the community. The Jathedar criticized Maan’s actions in videos involving Sikh Gurus and Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as disrespectful and sacrilegious.
The Akal Takht accused the Chief Minister of displaying an anti-Sikh attitude during discussions on a Panthic issue. They highlighted Maan’s repeated objectionable comments against Sikh principles, causing deep hurt to Sikh sentiments. The statement also mentioned recent videos showing Maan engaging in inappropriate activities with images of Sikh Guru Sahiban and Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale.
Referring to Maan as a “patit Sikh” due to cutting his hair, the Jathedar instructed him to present his response to the Akal Takht Sahib secretariat. Maan, being a patit Sikh, is required to appear at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on January 15, 2026, at 10 am to clarify his position. In a similar incident in 2024, former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal was found guilty of breaching the Sikh religious code.
