Launching a scathing critique on the government, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav questioned the Centre’s response to a recent Youth Congress protest and raised concerns about voter list tampering. Akhilesh Yadav emphasized the unity of the opposition INDIA bloc, highlighting their focus on key upcoming elections.
During a media interaction in Chandigarh, Akhilesh Yadav expressed disappointment in the government’s failure to assess the intentions of delegates before their invitation. He criticized the lack of preventive measures by agencies, citing their inability to anticipate the protest.
Asserting the solidarity of the INDIA alliance, Akhilesh Yadav underscored their commitment to challenging the BJP in crucial elections, particularly in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. He warned against divisive politics that could potentially fragment society, emphasizing the significance of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh election in shaping the state’s future and the political landscape for 2029.
Accusing the authorities of manipulating voter rolls, Akhilesh Yadav cautioned opposition parties to stay vigilant. He alleged that migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh residing in other states were being targeted for removal from voter lists through Form 7 applications. Akhilesh Yadav also highlighted instances of voter disenfranchisement, citing the removal of a Muslim voter’s name due to fraudulent signatures.
Praising Chandigarh’s urban planning, Akhilesh Yadav commended the city as a well-thought-out model for development. He suggested that replicating Chandigarh’s planning in other cities could have mitigated various urban challenges such as pollution, traffic congestion, and inadequate drainage systems. Additionally, he indirectly criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for overseas trips amid unresolved domestic issues.
