All India Imam Association President, Maulana Sajid Rashidi, supported Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Arshad Madani’s recent statements and criticized the increasing intimidation faced by Muslims in India. Rashidi highlighted the fear instilled in Muslims through public campaigns and communal tensions, emphasizing the need to address these issues. Despite challenges, he noted that Islam continues to thrive in the country, citing a reported increase in conversions post-2015.
Rashidi expressed concerns over the merging of politics and religion, warning against the detrimental impact on justice and governance. Responding to remarks by Uttar Pradesh Minister Jaiveer Singh on azaan, he deemed the comments as baseless and highlighted the tolerance of other religious events by the Muslim community. Additionally, he addressed the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s ruling on the Bhojshala complex, stating the Muslim side’s intention to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court.
Regarding criticism from BJP leader Agnimitra Paul on religious beliefs, Rashidi clarified the Muslim perspective on worship and patriotism. He emphasized respect for the country while distinguishing between cultural practices and religious beliefs, aiming to foster mutual understanding. Rashidi’s statements underscore the importance of religious harmony and respect for diverse beliefs in a pluralistic society.
