The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to initiate a nationwide movement to address the social and political marginalization of Muslims, along with the demolition of mosques and madrasas. An Action Committee has been formed by the Executive Committee of the Board to collaborate with sections of society that value democracy and peace, aiming to raise awareness about issues such as the promotion of hatred, communal disharmony, and attacks on Muslims’ life, property, honor, and dignity.
During a meeting chaired by Board President Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, concerns were raised regarding the forced implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which was deemed to be in conflict with the religious freedom safeguarded under Article 25 of the Indian Constitution. The Executive Committee also expressed apprehension about the legislative initiatives in BJP-ruled states in the name of the UCC.
The Executive Committee highlighted the ongoing preparations for UCC implementation in states like Assam, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, following similar actions in Uttarakhand and Gujarat. It was emphasized that legal challenges would be pursued against UCC laws in various states, akin to the action taken against the Uttarakhand Government’s UCC law in the Nainital High Court.
Furthermore, the Committee denounced attempts to mandate the singing of Vande Mataram, stating that such efforts contradict Article 25 of the Constitution. The Board clarified its stance, indicating that any move by the Central Government to enforce the singing of Vande Mataram for all citizens or school students would be legally contested.
In response to the interim order from the Calcutta High Court halting the West Bengal government’s directive on Vande Mataram in schools and madrasas, the Executive Committee expressed its approval. The Board underscored that the contents of Vande Mataram conflict with the Islamic belief in Tawhid (the oneness of God), making it impermissible under Islamic law.
Lastly, the Board urged Muslims not to compromise their faith and beliefs in the face of calls for tolerance or patriotism. The Executive Committee outlined plans to create and distribute a comprehensive document shedding light on the deteriorating situation of the Muslim community, communal tensions, and violations of fundamental rights to raise awareness among justice-loving and democratically inclined segments of society.
