The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has called on the Uttar Pradesh government and the Rampur Development Authority (RDA) to retract demolition notices served on 38 buildings of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, established by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. The AIMPLB criticized the actions as vindictive and unjust, emphasizing the importance of protecting this educational institution through dialogue to address any legal or technical concerns.
Expressing condemnation towards the demolition notices issued to the University, the AIMPLB urged authorities to cease the proposed action immediately and withdraw the demolition notice. Board spokesperson S.Q.R. Ilyas highlighted that the move not only targets the educational institution but also impedes the educational progress of the Muslim community. He criticized the targeting of institutions established through public efforts, sacrifice, and ongoing dedication under various administrative and legal pretexts.
The AIMPLB emphasized that the demolition notice for 38 buildings reflects a political vendetta against Azam Khan. Ilyas disputed the RDA’s assertion that the buildings were constructed without necessary approvals, noting that they were built when the area was not under the RDA’s jurisdiction. He suggested that any legal or technical issues could be resolved through appropriate legal channels rather than resorting to demolition.
Ilyas criticized the decision to demolish 38 buildings of a university that was established with significant effort, public support, and investment, deeming it a disproportionate and arbitrary action that goes against the broader educational interests of the nation. He warned that such actions could cause irreparable harm to the educational assets of the country, affecting not just one institution or community but the nation as a whole.
