A female employee of Pune Municipal Corporation conducting Census-2027 work in Pune, Maharashtra, was allegedly verbally abused and physically assaulted. The incident involved her and her son being surrounded and attacked, leading to torn clothes, obstruction of official duties, and death threats. The case has been registered at Swargate Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Vanita Gorakhnath Patole, a sepoy at the Bibwewadi Regional Office of Pune Municipal Corporation, was conducting the census survey in Minatai Thackeray Vasahat area when she faced rudeness and obstruction from certain individuals. Despite asking census-related questions, she was verbally abused and threatened, leading to a subsequent physical attack on her and her son the following day.

The attack involved a group of individuals surrounding and assaulting the female employee and her son with kicks, punches, stones, and bare hands. Her son sustained a serious injury that required stitches. Vanita Patole expressed shock over the brutal attack, emphasizing that she was merely performing her official duties and seeking justice for the unwarranted violence.

Following the complaint, a case was filed against specific individuals and unidentified others involved in the assault under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Yashwant Nikam, Senior Police Inspector at Swargate Police Station, assured that appropriate legal action would be taken and highlighted the importance of creating awareness about census activities in slum areas, ensuring police assistance for employees in need.
