The alleged gang-rape of two sisters from Jharkhand during a Tilak ceremony in Naubatpur, Patna, has stirred a political debate in Bihar. The women have accused 13 individuals of the crime, prompting a police investigation. Rohini Acharya, a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, criticized the state government for its handling of the incident, raising concerns about women’s safety and law enforcement in Bihar.
The incident has led to heightened tensions between the ruling NDA and the Opposition in Bihar, with questions being raised about women’s security and the overall law and order situation. While the police are looking into the allegations and the involvement of the accused, authorities are expected to proceed based on the victims’ statements, medical evidence, and the ongoing investigation. The alleged crime took place on June 18, with the victims claiming they were hired for a dance performance but were instead subjected to a night of sexual assault.
The victims, residents of Latehar district, alleged that they were taken to a secluded location by the accused individuals, who then sexually assaulted them throughout the night. Rohini Acharya emphasized the need for the government to prioritize women’s safety and ensure that criminals are held accountable. She highlighted the failure of the state administration to address crimes against women effectively, citing unresolved cases and delays in justice as evidence of administrative shortcomings.
