Over two lakh Yatris have participated in the ongoing Amarnath Yatra in the last eight days. Another group of 6,482 pilgrims has left Jammu for the Valley on Saturday. The Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2026 has reached a significant milestone, surpassing the two-lakh pilgrim mark within just eight days of starting.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed, “The holy Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra has exceeded the two lakh pilgrim mark in just 8 days, showcasing a remarkable display of faith. With the pilgrimage proceeding smoothly on both routes, the spiritual festivities are poised to welcome a continuous influx of devotees in the upcoming weeks. Har Har Mahadev!”
A fresh batch of 6,482 pilgrims departed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas for the Valley today. The group set off early in a convoy of 268 escorted vehicles under stringent security measures. Among the Yatris were 4,838 men, 1,387 women, 16 children, 171 sadhus, and 70 sadhvis.
Yesterday, more than 29,000 pilgrims visited the cave shrine to pay their respects. Officials reported that a total of 29,507 pilgrims from various parts of the country paid obeisance at the cave shrine located at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the Kashmir Himalayas. This brings the total number of Yatris visiting the cave shrine in the last eight days to 2,01,008.
This year’s 57-day-long Yatra will end on August 28, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. In a separate incident on Friday, six Amarnath pilgrims sustained injuries when their vehicle skidded off the road and collided with the hillside at Toldi Nallah National Highway in Udhampur district. The injured were taken to District Hospital Udhampur, with one of them referred to GMC Jammu for further treatment.
