Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and opposition parties for opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process conducted by the Election Commission. Shah mentioned that the Election Commission’s initiative faced allegations of “vote theft” from the opposition, including Rahul Gandhi, who took the matter to the Supreme Court.
Shah highlighted the support for the SIR process in West Bengal, emphasizing the public’s rejection of infiltration. He noted that a recent court ruling validated the constitutionality of the SIR process, affirming its legitimacy. Shah connected the issue to citizenship and voting rights, asserting that only Indian citizens should have the authority to shape the nation’s future.
During his speech at the inauguration of new hostel facilities in Ahmedabad, Shah discussed the issue of infiltration in West Bengal, stating that significant changes had occurred due to political developments. He mentioned the formation of a Demographic Change Commission by the Union Home Ministry to address unnatural demographic shifts and explore legal remedies.
The event, which marked the opening of the J.S. Patel Hostel and Tapasvi Kumar Arvind Patel Girls’ Hostel at Mata Umiya Dham, was attended by Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, BJP leaders, ministers, and Umiya Mata Sansthan representatives. The new hostel facilities, constructed at a reported cost exceeding Rs 170 crore, are designed to accommodate approximately 1,600 students in Ahmedabad.
