Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, along with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, inaugurated the Bharat Taxi service in Gujarat. They took a symbolic ride in a ‘Bharat Taxi’ from Mahatma Mandir to the Circuit House in Gandhinagar. The service aims to empower drivers by making them shareholders in the platform instead of mere commission-based operators.
The driver who drove the leaders described the experience as unforgettable and expressed optimism about the initiative benefiting taxi operators in the state. He praised the Bharat Taxi app and anticipated positive outcomes for all drivers involved. The driver shared that the leaders, including Amit Shah, showed interest in his background and association with the service during the ride.
Union Minister Amit Shah emphasized that Bharat Taxi offers a cooperative approach to traditional app-based taxi services, aiming to eliminate exploitation of both drivers and passengers. The initiative, launched in Gujarat’s major cities, includes two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, and four-wheelers, with plans to expand to over 500 cities nationwide within two years. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted the significance of allowing drivers to share in the enterprise’s benefits, shifting them from service providers to stakeholders.
The platform has already onboarded around seven lakh driver-members and over 37 lakh customers nationwide. In Gujarat, the service has been introduced in various cities, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot. The launch event also involved collaborations with organizations like Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation and Gujarat State Cooperative Bank to integrate the platform with the state’s transport infrastructure and public services.
