Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah revealed that Bharat Taxi aims to broaden its cooperative mobility platform to over 500 cities and towns in India within the next two years. The expansion marks the next phase of the organization’s nationwide growth. The platform has already initiated operations on a trial basis in various locations and has now officially launched services in major cities across Gujarat.
Shah, speaking at the launch event in Gujarat, announced the formal commencement of Bharat Taxi’s services in all three categories – two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, and four-wheelers. The organization has enlisted approximately seven lakh “Sarathis,” or driver-members, who hold shares in the cooperative. Shah outlined the roadmap for expansion, stating that Bharat Taxi will swiftly expand its operations nationwide in the upcoming months.
Emphasizing the rapid expansion plans, Shah mentioned that the platform will soon operate in cities such as Nagpur, Pune, Mumbai, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Kolkata. By July 31, Bharat Taxi aims to establish operations in all these locations. The cooperative model, where drivers become members and shareholders instead of remaining independent contractors, will underpin the expansion strategy.
Shah connected this initiative to the broader cooperative movement advocated by the Ministry of Cooperation. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on ‘Prosperity through Cooperation’ and how this mantra is being realized in the mobility and transportation sectors through the cooperative movement. Shah congratulated the newly enrolled members from Gujarat, expressing confidence that Bharat Taxi will evolve into a significant cooperative organization in India’s transport and mobility industry.
