Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in Kolkata that the process of granting citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to genuine refugees facing religious persecution from neighboring countries, including West Bengal, will be completed soon. Shah highlighted that the Liaquat-Nehru Pact of 1950 did not adequately protect minority Hindus in Pakistan and East Pakistan, leading to the enactment of the CAA to provide refuge to Hindu and other persecuted communities. He praised West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for his efforts in tackling corruption and implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the convention virtually, emphasized the inspirational life of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, noting the ideological challenges faced by the organization in a Congress-dominated political landscape. Modi credited Mukherjee for establishing the organization and fostering a philosophical movement in India, despite the prevailing political climate.
