Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for its role in establishing peace in the once-troubled Northeast region. Speaking at the 87th Raising Day celebrations of the CRPF in Guwahati, Shah highlighted the historic efforts of the CRPF and other security forces in restoring stability to the region. He acknowledged the sacrifices of nearly 700 CRPF personnel who laid down their lives to ensure peace and security in the Northeast.
The Home Minister emphasized the transformation of the Northeast from a region marred by unrest, violence, and instability to one that now enjoys peace, attributing this positive change to the bravery and sacrifices of security forces, particularly the CRPF. Shah noted the significance of holding the Raising Day celebrations in Assam for the first time in the CRPF’s 86-year history, symbolizing the region’s evolving importance in India’s internal security framework.
Shah also highlighted the government’s success in pacifying other conflict-affected areas, citing improvements in the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir due to decisive policy measures against terrorism. He mentioned the effective containment of Maoist activities in various parts of the country under the BJP government’s leadership. Additionally, Shah underscored the administration’s commitment to bolstering border security and ensuring the peaceful integrity of India’s borders through continuous efforts.
The Home Minister stressed the correlation between peace in the Northeast and the region’s advancement in terms of development, investment, and growth. He reiterated the government’s dedication to fostering lasting peace while enhancing infrastructure and connectivity across the Northeast. Shah paid tribute to the fallen CRPF personnel and their families, acknowledging their supreme sacrifice in safeguarding India’s unity and integrity.
