Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at a farmers’ conference in Rewa, mentioned that the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had a special affinity for the local Bagheli language. Bagheli, spoken in the Baghelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh, is akin to Avadhi and Bhojpuri. Rewa, bordering Uttar Pradesh from three sides, shares cultural ties with Allahabad, Mirzapur-Banaras, and Chitrakoot.
During the event, Shah inaugurated Madhya Pradesh’s ‘Natural Farming Project’ and visited a cow shelter and an agriculture exhibition in Rewa. The ‘Gaushala’ at Basaman Mama, housing over 7,000 cows, was established to care for abandoned cattle. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla, and other local BJP leaders also attended the program.
The event in Rewa aligns with Chief Minister Yadav’s focus on agricultural development and natural farming promotion in 2026. Following two years dedicated to Women Empowerment and Industrial Growth, 2026 has been declared as the Agriculture Year in Madhya Pradesh. The state aims to boost farmers’ income, enhance climate-resilient farming practices, ensure fair crop prices, and drive agricultural advancements through technology and digital initiatives.
Madhya Pradesh stands out as a leading producer of maize and soybean, ranking high in wheat, urad, lentil, chickpea, mustard, oilseeds, pulses, cereals, and coarse grains. Over the past two years, the state government has procured 2.41 crore metric tonnes of grains from 48.51 lakh farmers, with direct payments totaling Rs 81,767 crore to farmers’ accounts. Additionally, the government has compensated 77 lakh farmers with Rs 1,243.54 crore for crop losses due to natural disasters.
Under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, farmers receive financial support from both the central and state governments. Since April 2025, a total of Rs 65,756 crore has been disbursed to 1.61 crore farmers under this joint initiative.
