Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the ongoing construction of corridors at the Maa Kamakhya Temple Complex in Guwahati and the Ambabai Mahalaxmi Temple in Kolhapur during an event. The Maa Kamakhya Divyalok Pariyojana, a Rs 498 crore project, aims to enhance infrastructure for pilgrims visiting the Shakti Peeth in Guwahati. The project includes expanding open spaces and widening access paths to accommodate more visitors.
Construction work under the project involves expanding open spaces from 3,000 to 100,000 square feet across three levels, allowing for a capacity of up to 10,000 pilgrims. The narrow access paths will be widened from 8-10 feet to 27-30 feet, and hidden temples on the hill will be restored. Major construction is limited to the downhill area, with no work planned inside the main sanctum or upper hill zone. The project was revised following studies by IIT Guwahati and NIH Roorkee.
Amit Shah also mentioned the construction of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, and the renovation of Kedarnath Dham and Badrinath Dham. The Ambabai Mahalaxmi Temple Corridor project in Kolhapur, costing Rs 1,500 crore, aims to enhance the temple complex over 28,000 square meters. The renovation includes preserving surrounding temples and adding modern facilities like AI-based security cameras, LED decorations, and heritage walkways.
The Ambabai Mahalaxmi Temple complex will feature various amenities such as a multipurpose hall, police station, and heritage courtyard upon completion. Shah emphasized that the project’s completion will transform Kolhapur into a developed spiritual destination, preserving cultural heritage. The initiative, focusing on cultural preservation and spiritual development, aims to inspire devotion among devotees and promote Maharashtra’s rich heritage.
