Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating Naxalism from India, setting a deadline of March 31, 2026, for this goal. The year 2025 witnessed significant operations against the Naxal movement, paving the way for its eradication.

Shah empowered security forces to tackle the issue while ensuring seamless coordination between state and central forces. Development initiatives in Naxal-affected regions aimed at transforming mindsets, leading to a decline in local support for Naxalites.

In 2025, security forces dealt a heavy blow to the Naxalites, resulting in the death of 256 and the arrest of 884 individuals. Notably, 1,562 Naxalites surrendered, with many opting for rehabilitation and mainstream integration, marking a shift in their approach.

The surrender of top Naxal leaders, including central committee members, sent a strong message to remaining cadres and potential recruits, highlighting the diminishing appeal of the movement. While ground activities have waned, vigilance remains crucial to prevent any revival attempts.
