Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to expedite the ongoing peace efforts and strengthen unity among various communities in the state. The directive came during a meeting at the Parliament House complex where they discussed the law and order situation in Manipur. Chief Minister Khemchand Singh, who arrived in New Delhi for this purpose, received in-principle approval to establish a Manipur Rifles unit.
During the meeting, Union Minister Shah emphasized the importance of enhancing peace initiatives and fostering better relations among different communities in Manipur. He also encouraged the Chief Minister to formalize a proposal for setting up a Manipur Rifles unit. The discussions centered on reviewing the security scenario in Manipur and consolidating the progress made in community relations.
Union Home Minister Shah had previously met Chief Minister Khemchand Singh and Deputy Chief Ministers to address critical issues, including the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by ethnic conflicts. The Central government assured full support to the state government in restoring normalcy and promoting overall development in Manipur. The ongoing efforts by the BJP-led coalition government in Manipur aim to promote peace, reconciliation, and trust among communities.
