In a significant development, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled a cross-border narco-arms smuggling network by apprehending four individuals and seizing 1.5 kg of heroin and Rs 1.98 lakh in drug proceeds, as confirmed by Punjab’s Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. The arrested individuals, identified as Jaskinder Singh, alias Sikander, Harpal Singh, Gurmukh Singh, and Sukhdeep Singh, are all residents of Ranian village in Amritsar. Alongside the narcotics and cash, law enforcement also confiscated two sophisticated pistols and 34 cartridges, sourced from the Pakistan Ordnance Factory, from the suspects.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the apprehended individuals, in collaboration with overseas handlers, maintained communication with smugglers in Pakistan through social media platforms, according to DGP Yadav. Acting on instructions, they facilitated the retrieval and distribution of illicit arms and heroin transported via drones from the border to various locations in Punjab. Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared that, based on specific intelligence, the police conducted a successful operation resulting in the arrest of the four suspects.
Following disclosures by Gurmukh Singh and Sukhdeep Singh, law enforcement recovered two pistols, while Jaskinder Singh and Harpal Singh’s revelations led to the seizure of 1.5 kg of heroin. Further inquiries unveiled that the arrested individuals were closely related, forming an extended family network. Notably, Harpal Singh and Gurmukh Singh are siblings, while Jaskinder Singh and Sukhdeep Singh are their nephews. Additionally, all four suspects, aged between 19 and 33 years, have no prior criminal records.
