In a significant development, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has disrupted a drug and illegal arms smuggling operation by apprehending a suspect and seizing 2.1 kg of heroin and seven sophisticated pistols, informed Punjab’s Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. The arrested individual, identified as Khush Kumar, also known as Bholu, aged 26 and residing in Gurwali Gate, Amritsar, has a criminal record involving violations of the NDPS Act, the Arms Act, and cases of snatching.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused maintained communication with an overseas smuggler using virtual numbers. The illegal substances and weapons were transported via drones from the border and then distributed to criminal elements by the suspect. Authorities are currently conducting further inquiries to uncover the network’s connections and identify other accomplices.
Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, disclosed that a well-planned operation led to the arrest of Khush and the recovery of 2.1 kg of heroin. Subsequent interrogation of the suspect resulted in the confiscation of seven pistols. The recovered firearms were allegedly destined for criminal activities, but swift action by the Commissionerate Police prevented their circulation. An FIR has been lodged under the NDPS Act and Arms Act in Amritsar.
