Amritsar Commissionerate Police, led by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, has successfully dismantled a cross-border drug smuggling cartel by apprehending six individuals, including two juveniles. The police operation resulted in the seizure of 30.045 kg of heroin from the suspects. Among those arrested are individuals with prior criminal involvement in drug-related cases, with connections to a Dubai-based smuggler.
The arrested individuals, identified as Gautam, Kabir (alias Kaku), Sameer (alias Sabarwal), and Gurpreet Singh (alias Keeda), were found to be linked to a Dubai-based smuggler who orchestrated the supply of heroin from across the border. The suspects were responsible for retrieving and distributing the drug consignments within the state, following the instructions of the mastermind based in Dubai. The police also recovered a motorcycle used by the cartel for their illicit activities.
Preliminary investigations have unveiled the operational details of the drug trafficking network, with efforts ongoing to identify additional associates and track potential financial links, including hawala connections. Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar disclosed that the Dubai-based smuggler, wanted in multiple NDPS cases, enticed young individuals, including juveniles, with monetary incentives to carry out the illicit drug operations on his behalf.
