In a significant development in the fight against drug trafficking in Punjab, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled an international drug cartel by apprehending two individuals and seizing 10 kg of ICE (methamphetamine) and 4 kg of heroin. The Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, disclosed this breakthrough on Wednesday. The arrested individuals, identified as Mohit alias Bachi, 19, from Jalandhar, and Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh alias Harman, 23, from Amritsar, were found to be connected to a Dubai-based drug smuggler operating in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested suspects were collaborating with the Dubai-based drug smuggler to traffic narcotics in Punjab and Delhi. Mohit, who had recently returned from Dubai after being trained to transport heroin and ICE, was distributing these drugs in the Majha and Doaba regions. Commissioner of Police in Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, revealed that the police intercepted Mohit and Arshdeep Singh while they were on a motorcycle, seizing the drugs from their possession after a thorough search.
During interrogation, Mohit confessed that the Dubai-based smuggler targeted young labor-class individuals to engage in drug trafficking. Arshdeep, already involved in drug trafficking, was in direct contact with the smuggler, receiving and storing heroin consignments for further distribution. Earlier this year, two associates of the same smuggler were arrested with heroin and drug money. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the network’s members and potential additional recoveries, with a recent case registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar.
