Amritsar Commissionerate Police made a significant breakthrough by uncovering a cross-border terror conspiracy. The police arrested Sumit Kumar, also known as Pandit, seizing a hand grenade, a 9mm Glock pistol, and four cartridges from him. The accused, a resident of Sukhsal village in Ropar district, was allegedly in contact with ISI handlers through Instagram to disrupt peace by targeting police establishments and public places.
Police investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire network and identify other individuals involved in the conspiracy. Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar disclosed that Sumit Kumar was apprehended based on intelligence inputs and technical surveillance. Further questioning led to the recovery of a hand grenade, exposing his connections to cross-border activities and thwarting a potentially larger threat. It was revealed that the accused already had a criminal case registered under the NDPS Act.
A case has been filed against Sumit Kumar under various sections of the Arms Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Explosive Act at the Cantonment Police Station in Amritsar. The authorities are intensifying efforts to prevent any further threats posed by such activities.
