Amritsar Rural Police, with the help of Village Defence Committee (VDC), uncovered a significant cross-border narco-terror network. The operation led to the seizure of 42.9 kg of heroin, four hand grenades, and a Star-mark pistol with 46 cartridges, as confirmed by Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. This successful crackdown was made possible by actionable intelligence gathered through VDCs, an initiative by the state government to involve communities in enhancing internal security and combating drug-related activities.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the confiscated narcotics, weapons, and explosives were delivered via drones from across the international border, indicating the involvement of a well-organized cross-border narco-terror network. Two individuals from Amritsar have been detained in connection with the case, while efforts are ongoing to locate other suspects, establish the ownership chain, and unravel the broader conspiracy. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Sandeep Goel shared that based on VDC intelligence, law enforcement intercepted a motorcycle in Oothian village, prompting suspects to abandon the vehicle and flee into nearby agricultural fields under the cover of darkness.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar-Rural) Suhail Qasim Mir highlighted that a thorough investigation is in progress to identify, apprehend, and dismantle the network involved. An FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Explosive Substances Act at the Rajasansi police station in Amritsar (Rural), emphasizing the seriousness with which law enforcement is addressing this issue.
