Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu praised the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for attaining 89.4% forest cover in Tirumala. The TTD’s conservation efforts in the Seshachalam Hills led to this significant achievement. Naidu emphasized the cultural importance of nature preservation and commended the initiative for ensuring a greener future for Tirumala.
The TTD recently announced the successful attainment of 89.4% green cover in the region. The temple’s forest department has been dedicated to preserving the forest wealth of the Seshachalam Hills since 1980. By maintaining ecological balance and focusing on biodiversity conservation, the TTD has played a crucial role in protecting the natural habitat.
Under the supervision of the Deputy Conservator of Forests, the TTD forest department manages a total forest area of 2,719 hectares. The institution has been recognized for its exceptional green cover, as reported in the latest India State of Forest Report. The forest department’s efforts contribute significantly to carbon storage, climate regulation, and biodiversity conservation.
The TTD forest department operates under the guidance of the Deputy Conservator of Forests, overseeing four forest ranges in Tirumala and Tirupati. Specialized teams work tirelessly to prevent illegal activities like tree felling and poaching. Additionally, measures are in place to combat forest fires, with dedicated teams maintaining fire lines and responding swiftly to control any outbreaks.
As part of its conservation initiatives, the TTD is actively involved in restoring native vegetation and replacing exotic plantations with indigenous species. Various native plants such as peepal, banyan, and sandalwood are being reintroduced across designated areas. The institution’s nurseries play a vital role in supplying quality saplings for these restoration projects.
