Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has instructed officials to conduct a thorough audit of the waste and effluents polluting the Godavari River. Following his inspection of polluted areas along the river, he urged East Godavari district officials to provide a detailed report on current measures and future plans.
Pawan Kalyan, who oversees the environment portfolio, affirmed the government’s commitment to hosting the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams with a focus on a pollution-free river. During his visit to Rajamahendravaram, he personally examined pollution-affected sites along the river and assessed ongoing and upcoming works for the Pushkarams.
The Deputy CM emphasized the need for a scientific approach to treating the approximately 55 MLD of sewage that flows into the Godavari daily. He stressed the importance of addressing the issue of untreated sewage directly affecting the river’s water quality. Pawan Kalyan also highlighted the allocation of funds for constructing modern treatment plants to ensure only treated water is discharged into the Godavari.
Pawan Kalyan further investigated the discharge of polluted effluents from Andhra Paper Mills into the Godavari River, seeking detailed information from the State Pollution Control Board Chairman. He inspected waste segregation processes at treatment plant sites and inquired about waste disposal methods. Additionally, he reviewed Pushkaram-related works at the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation office.
